What Real Alaskan Women Read

Well here we are in August and I am in little more half way through the book. I definitely think that it is something I could spend all day reading. The ease and fun nature of the writing helps greatly.
However there are a few questions lingering in my mind. Where are all of the teachers coming from for each school? Is it the numradher (sp) that is the teacher? Or someone else in the villages? Also, what happens after the kids go to school? What improvements come into the village?
It bothers me also wondering how much the changes have affected the culture of the villages. I know that the incoming of schools and the western world into many of the villages in Alaska have greatly affected the villages and the people. In fact, I can see this same affect in my home.
We live a very simple life: outhouse, haul water, etc. But whenever we have the opportunity to have conveniences or luxuries we definitely take advantage and then quickly become complacent and remiss. We no longer have the smaller things pushing us. This follows the lines of the Japanese architect who builds his structures slightly off, causing people living in them to be constantly tuned in.
In fact you can often see elders in communities and villages who have spend most of there lives working hard to survive or live and they are very content and happy. So it does make me wonder what many of these villages look like today with kids leaving to go to secondary school and the women staying.
Now not to say that what Dr. Mortenson brought to the villages was not beneficial, but to say that everything has its ramifications, a pebble in a pond will ripple out. And knowing that he has not done anything out of spite or arrogance or self-centered/ self-serving attitude. But to say that often as the ball gets rolling and hits snowball affect, one might stop to ponder. Or can we? Do we become so absorbed into our direction and not stop to contemplate?
One last thought, what about his wife? Did she not miss him being gone so much?
