The Plenty Measure: Where do my foods come from?

I have read up to November. I thought for awhile that I would read a chapter with each month that I go through, but I became involved in the book. I also just realized that the chapters change as to who is telling the story (duhh!).
As I read I marked several pages that I wanted to share and talk about.

The first section that kind of sucked me into the book was the May chapter. I had read it right at about the time that we had returned from visiting the Foshees and had gone to their farmers mar… Continue

I love holidays!

It is back to work. So what better thing to do than stall out on work and post to our Alaska Mama's book club. Actually my excuse is valid, as I make it a point to stay off the computer during holidays. I spend enough time already in front of the screen.
So I took the time to finish the book Eat, Love , Pray.
As I mentioned in my email, it was good enough to make me want to look for God. That is quite a feat.
I also marked out some of my favorite lines (there were many.) So when you come across… Continue

Ohh dear...

I still have not been able to put the book down, with an exception. I am about half way through the book and it has caused me to think sooo much. But I have to be brave and honest (snicker) and admit that I picked up Twilight as an evening-let-down-my-hair book and let-my-brain-relax and I could not put it down. Talk about book-candy. There is not a whole bunch of substance to the book (really none) but it has capitalized my time for reading.
As embarrassed as I am to admit it!
At any rate, I th… Continue

Ha

I am laughing about my post and laughing at myself from yesterday, as I read on further in the book. Enough said.

Hi Chris!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I'm really excited to actually be part of a book club. I'm heading out to Barnes & Noble to pick up "Plenty." I'll post comments when I get into it a bit. Stacy is such a sweetheart for inviting me to join you guys, looking forward to getting to know you all.

I am amazed by Greg's "gettrdone" attitude. He seems like a person who thinks less about himself and more about others. I wish I were more like that. He journey was no small feat but he was not discouraged by his lack of skills(typing the letters, getting supplies in the country where he didn't speak the language) but just kept on pushing. Rarely do we feel SO compelled to help others that make it our FIRST priority.

I must confess....it's not. I haven't been reading much lately. David is actually further in the book than I. I will try and make it a point to finish it up!

Please please send the invite and that is an awesome idea. I was just thinking this morning how hardships build us as long as we are willing to endure and deal with them positively in order to gain. It often makes me wonder what life would be like if I was born to a villager in Kophe and not a fairly well off, educated woman.
Would I still feel the same about hardships. Knowledge is power.... Experiences build... I think we need both.
My personal vote is for some place in the middle for all, challenging but not too challenging for all.. Possibly a warm climate.. or a winter climate or.. Well, there are endless possibilities.. I am totally game and way in..
